We had an overnight stay and an afternoon spa at the Buxton Crescent. The spa is very well maintained, very clean and has comprehensive facilities, including a roof-top indoor/ open air swimming pool with jacuzzi. Please note that if you are staying in the hotel, you are expected to take anything you may need for the spa and keep it with you. The changing rooms and lockers are for the use of day guests only. The bedroom was fine - nothing out of the ordinary - but clean and comfortable. The only thing I felt was missing was somewhere to sit in the bathroom/ or to put down some clothes. We were given a downstairs room, which had a wet-room shower facility, which was of a good size, but had nowhere to sit except for a chair in the shower (which was too wet to sit on if wanting to dry your feet!!) The toilet seat had no lid, which I presume is standard practice in a disabled bathroom (we are not disabled). We had a very tasty evening meal and staff were very attentive. There was a generous amount towards our meal which had been included in the spa gift voucher, but otherwise I would find the meals to be on the pricey side. There are other choices of restaurant in Buxton, which are maybe not so swish but are far more affordable. The breakfast was fairly comprehensive and tasty but the young waiting staff were under a lot of pressure due to under-staffing and there was a wait to be served and the buffet sections weren't being replenished as they should. The staff were very pleasant, despite being under pressure. We would like to give a special shout out to Kevin who was on duty as concierge when we arrived. He went above and beyond to help us settle in to the hotel.

Great location, great building, great brand ownership…..BUT………a poor and unsatisfactory stay. Arrived and met with friends for a sandwich lunch before going to see The Merry Widow ( which was fantastic ) ………club sandwich took an age to arrive and was pretty dreadful! Great location, great building, great brand ownership…..BUT………a poor and unsatisfactory stay. Arrived and met with friends for a sandwich lunch before going to see The Merry Widow ( which was fantastic ) ………club sandwich took an age to arrive and was pretty dreadful! Then we stayed for two nights. Room 214…….great room except for the creaky floorboards in the room above. Lost a nights sleep……had a 20% discount BUT a hotel is all about the overnight sleep. Fix the floor in the room above 214. Then …..the breakfast experience! Do any staff members clear a table after guests have vacated? The greeter was fazzled as the queue built up because vacated tables were not being cleared. Two days and we experienced the same failure to do the basics. This could be a “fantastic” place to stay. Just needs an injection of experienced senior management and a staff that enjoy working there!
