We stayed for three days at this hotel. It is situated on a quiet location and offers a nice view. Because of Corona restrictions, face masks and hygienic measures were required. Nevertheless we were made to feel welcome throughout our stay. Our room was spacious and comfortable and had a balcony. There was a small breakfast buffet which offered plenty of choice. We would certainly choose this hotel again for a holiday in the Harz.

“A wonderful place to stay!”

The room was excellent. It was very spacious and I even had my own little balcony. The service was first rate and the breakfast was delicious with a variety of things to choose from. Everything was very clean. The inn keeper was very sweet. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We had a fantastic relaxing week and were made to feel at home the moment we arrived. The breakfast was superb and varied and our room was comfortable and with a lovely view. There were plenty of food facilities in kitchen areas and lots of fresh fruit or home made pastries.

The village of Bad Sachsa is not much to speak of. But if you have a car you can easily explore the Harz from there. We stayed at Hotel Sonnelhof for two nights and used it as a basis for two days of exploring: day 1) to the Teufelsmauer hike in Blankenburg and a visit to to the extremely pretty town of Quedlinburg, and day 2) A hike to Brocken via the Eckerlochsteig. The hotel is quite removed from the town centre (and it's really not much of a centre). It's not too far to walk, but it's fairly steep uphill back to the hotel. There is a good supermarket and petrol station at the entrance to the town. We had booked a junior suite and got room 15 on the top (2nd) floor. Nice, spacious room and a large south-facing balcony. The weather was good and we made good use of the balcony, but it's a pity that the large trees block the view and much of the sunshine. The staff is very friendly. The hotel and room is rather old in its style, kind of 70-ish. We've stayed in similar style hotels in many German and Austrian hotels. But it has its own charm. Toilet and bathroom are separate. There is a urinal in the toilet room which we found a bit odd and not very appealing to look at (even my husband thought so). The toilet room has its own small sink, which is practical. In the bathroom there were two large sinks and a good shower unit. On each floor there is a kitchen with an electric kettle, cups, glasses and plates that you can use, and a kitchen sink for washing up, etc. There is also a fridge with individual small compartments, one for each room with its own key – a very handy feature. You can also make coffee (free of charge) with the coffee machine in the reception area. You can buy drinks from a fridge by making notes of what you have used and paying at the end of your stay. The breakfast was really nice with lots of fresh fruit. It is easy to park at the hotel (free). We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Sonnenhof and I would have given it 5 stars if we had had more of a view and more sun on the balcony.
