Beautifully designed and well maintained! Cosy boutique hotel with a great location in the heart of Dali Ancient City, just off the main pedestrian shopping street. Walking distance to all the main sights and restaurants (which turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as vehicular traffic within the Ancient City's narrow streets is challenging, and there may be impromptu road blocks as well). Wonderful hospitality from the hotel, the team (all were locals) was ever friendly and attentive, serving all our meals (really liked the showcase of locally-sourced ingredients in the dishes) and sharing great recommendations on the best places to visit. This is our first visit to Dali and our first booking with the Sunyata 既下山 boutique hotel chain, already looking forward to the next stay with them :)

2 night stay for 3 adults in 2 rooms Upside: (1) Location: Right in the middle of Dali Ancient City, within walking distance to all the attractions, shops, markets, restaurants, cafes, bars, etc. Yet, it is on a relatively quiet side-street, making it a sanctuary from all the hustle and bustle. 2 night stay for 3 adults in 2 rooms Upside: (1) Location: Right in the middle of Dali Ancient City, within walking distance to all the attractions, shops, markets, restaurants, cafes, bars, etc. Yet, it is on a relatively quiet side-street, making it a sanctuary from all the hustle and bustle. (2) Boutique experience: Charming hotel design, quirky rooms, very helpful staff. A different and delicious set breakfast and coffee/tea was served every morning. There were also snacks available at set times during the day. Downside: (1) Room doors were quite temperamental. Note sure why, but maybe because they are exposed to the elements, the wood could have warped? Care has to be taken when opening/closing doors, otherwise e.g. door would not actually be locked when closed. (2) Some street noise is inevitable. In one room, singing, apparently from a nearby bar, could be heard in the evenings. Luckily, this stopped at 11pm.

Another good stay at Sunyata. They had painted the room since last time, which was a nice surprise. Otherwise, much the same as before. Hotel was helpful in organizing drivers via WeChat and the snacks throughout the day are a nice touch. Breakfast is basic and repetitive, but that’s the norm in Shaxi. Very cold dining room (also the norm) as well. Kind staff, clean rooms, floor heat in the room, and decent beds. Room 7 is great for families with kids because it is really two en-suite bedrooms with a common room in between. Worked well for our Christmas in Shaxi.

“Cool design, central in old town Dali ”

A nice modern hotel, cool design, pleasant staff. Very good beds. Heated rooms, but it was still very cold in our room ( in December). Excellent central location. A (not western) breakfast and a small afternoon tea is served every day.
