I am hesitant to write this review only because this place will become too popular and I won’t be able to get in when when we come back. And we will come back! Where do I begin? When we pulled up Sam and Mary-Claire were waiting for us at the parking lot. What a nice greeting. They helped us with our luggage and showed us our room and gave us the lay of the land. We took a short walk before the cocktail hour, where we met Brad (the owner) and had some nice drinks and amazing canapes. After chatting for a bit with the other guests, the chef was ready to serve dinner. The food was five star plus. The first night we were served lamb, which was beyond delicious, super tender, with some vegetables on the side and an amazing Pavlova for dessert, which I understand is the New Zealand national dessert. The service at dinner was also five star plus and I’m saying this after staying at The Four Seasons in Sydney, which was great also but nothing compared to this. I was unaware that this was a working farm, which was a bonus. It’s a 2,000 acre farm with sheep, deer, and cows. We opted for the Farm tour with Brad‘s father-in-law Cam, who was a delight. He drove us all over the property, gave us lots and lots of information about the property which he himself bought and started in the 70s. Cam also took us to the highest spot on the property where we could see 360°, and what a view! We also took the time to do a little beekeeping tour with Brad, which was a lot of fun, not at all scary and quite fascinating. We learned lots about bees and Brad was very passionate about it. There are only a maximum of 12 guests here, but it feels like you’re the only ones. The staff makes you feel so special and cared for. The parlor room where the appetizers are served has a very large picture window, where you can look out and see the grounds and the lake and the sheep and it looks like a postcard. Incredible. The wine they served with dinner also was amazing. On our first walk of the grounds, we went through a small gate in the field and saw about 500 sheep grazing nearby. They all just looked at us and then ran away all at once. There’s also a beautiful lake there we enjoyed walking around. One night it rained, and my husband went for a walk at night in the rain and got some amazing pictures, including the one here of the lodge at night with the lights reflecting in the pond. You could hear the elk and the cows off in the distance, but it was pleasant and not at all disturbing. It was actually quite enjoyable. I could go on and on but if you have the chance to stay at this incredible property, it will be the highlight of your trip!
